Searching for a near and economical destination, we discovered Skyros. It belongs to the Northern Sporades complex and is located east of Evia. It is just 24 miles from the port of Kymi, in Evia, and the ferry boat "Achilles" connects the island with daily itineraries.

Skyros I would describe it as the island of contrasts, as the north side of the island is full of pine trees and its south side is rocky, with imposing mountains and protected areas of "Natura", all of which are a beautiful landscape full of variations that travels you.

From the very first moment, we realized that Skyros, having a long history, is a place that has preserved its tradition and its authenticity without being altered in the passage of time and in the pursuit of tourism.

Her Country impressed us with the unique decoration of white houses built side by side. Exploring it, we lost it in its stone-built streets, admiring the local architecture and the richly decorated Skyrian houses.

Ending in the highest point of the country, on the characteristic rock of the castle and the monastery of Agios Georgios we were enchanted by the wonderful view we saw. On the one hand, all the houses of the country are spread under our feet, and on the other, your eye is lost in the endless blue.

Skyros has won us from the first moment because it can satisfy all tastes as it combines mountain and sea. There are landscaped paths and paths that have led us to discover unique plants such as "black tulip" and "wild orchid", as well as the rare falcon Mavropetritis. It also has some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Crystal waters, sea caves, beautiful scenery, sandy beaches and beaches with pearly pebbles. The combination of mountain and sea allows many sports such as hiking on beautiful natural paths, mountaineering, cycling, bird watching, water skiing, scuba diving, and is ideal for off-road motorcycle or 4x4 vehicles.

The island is also famous for the well-known "Skyrian horse", where its type is not found anywhere else in the world and is what is depicted in the Parthenon's metopes. We were fortunate to meet on our way a few, but it's very easy to see because there are horseshoes on the island that will help you get in touch with the little horses.

What surprised us was the unique local products we tested. Having quite developed livestock and fishing, it has a wide variety of cheese and seafood products. Cheese, honey, herbs, meat, fish and seafood are the raw materials used in the traditional cuisine of Skyrian.

Depending on the season, the island has a rich tradition with popular customs such as the numerous festivals, the Skyrian wedding, the famous Halloween,

Restaurants - Taverns - Sweets

One thing we enjoyed at Skyros was good and delicious food. Wherever we ate, though unknown on the island, we were happy everywhere.

The first part that was written in our mind was "The Stories of Barba". A traditional tsipouro with amazing appetizers and keen owners. The best place to enjoy seafood tastes, offering tranquility, tranquility and a great view. In the aftermath of our days, we took our way to Chora and as we were looking for something to sting, we sat in a small tavern on the main alley of the country "at Margeti". Nothing special as a shop but with great food and grilled specialties. Whatever we ate from this barbecue was perfect.

Walking in the northern part of the island in the green forest we found ourselves in a tavern named "St. Peter". That's where we ate was the owner's production. From meat to salad everything was his own. Very nice cooked and very tasty, with a wonderful view of the forest.
After making our bath at Aspous Beach, we recommended that we go for lunch at "Lambros". Tavern with very nice food and huge portions. We preferred roasts because they told us it was his specialty.

After all this, of course, we needed ice cream. We saw a long queue in front of the ice cream of the "Faltaine". For the first time, I see so strange tastes and I do not know what to choose. Having stayed for a long time in front of the refrigerator looking around, I decided to try and I was scared. I ate ice cream every day trying to taste as many flavors as I could.
