Arcadia, the lairs of Stavraetos

Arcadia is a prefecture of Greece located in the center of Peloponnese.  

Bordered to the north by the Prefecture of Achaia, in the northeast with the prefecture of Corinth, to the north and east with the prefecture of Argolida, in the south with the prefecture of Laconia, in the southwest of Messinia and to the west with the prefecture of Ilia. The eastern part has an exit to the sea, the Argolic Gulf and the Aegean Myrtoo.

By 1999 Arcadia divided administratively into four provinces Mantinea Megalopolis, Gortyniaskai Kynouria.

Major cities of the prefecture are the capital Tripoli, Megalopoli, Leonidio Astros, Tyros, Levidi. Flowering found in recent years due to increased tourist towns Dimitsana with outdoor museum water power, and Lagadia Vytina. The most important ports of Arcadia is of Paralio Astros, Tyros, and Leonidio Plaka.

From Agios Petros Arcadia, on the road to Astros is the nunnery Virgin Malevi. It is the most famous monastery of Kynouria and attracts a large number proskiniton.

Morphology

Large plains are the plateau of Tripolis and Megalopolis basin.

The Alpheus River and Ladon with Erymantho even Lucius contribute greatly to the economy of the county. The Taka lake is an important wetland, enabling residents of neighboring areas to irrigate their land, while Moustos Lake is an important habitat of wild birds in the area. The county economically based on agriculture, livestock, and tourism. In two large electricity factories, Ladon the hydroelectric and thermoelectric Megalopolis, working several Arcadians. The subsoil is rich in lignite (Megalopolis basin) and marble (Vitina Kapsia, Parnonas).

The fir forest of Menalo generously offers very good quality wood.
