Louros: The longest beach of Greece with a length of 17 km!


The immense light-colored sandy beach, the only protected wetland and the organized beach, are the poles of attraction during the summer months!

Louros is located 16 kilometers southwest of Neochori and is one of the best beaches of Aitoloakarnania, but also of the largest in Greece with a length of 17 kilometers!

The sandy beach has been protected since 1974 by the RAMSAR Convention, which certifies the uniqueness and undeniable value of the place as a habitat and ecologically similar to the wetland of Mesolongi.





The flora of the area includes laurels, cedars, sand lilies and tamarisk trees. It is one of the few places in Greece with sand dunes. The rich habitat of the biotope  also includes a number of birds, such as pelicans, storks, wild boars, cardinals, chickens, nightdrivers. It also includes wild horses living in the wetland of the wider Louros area.

It is one of the most famous beaches, as thousands of people from Aitoloakarnania and not only visit it for its stylish little shops. Young people can enjoy the services of modern beach bars, while parents can safely enjoy a drink or a meal as children play in the shallow sandy waters.







How to get there


The closest village to Louros is Neochori, which is 16 kilometers from the beach, following a smooth path in the green of the plain and the blue of the wetland. From Neochori and then there are local signs for Louros, but because it is a provincial road do not hesitate to ask at the first opportunity.
